Item Description

Artist -Advertising Illustrator - signed Fritz Otto (Fred) Kleesattel. Hand-drawn, original black & white ink. A grouping of some of the advertising illustrations that Kleesattel was known and respected for. 7 illustrations - baseball games, cigarettes, jewelry hand models, quill ink pens, banking / or paying for snacks at a game or a movie? cosmetics - compacts.
FRITZ OTTO (FRED) KLEESATTEL -Born in Cincinnati, Ohio. July 10, 1889; Died January 16, 1965.
better known as "Fritz" Kleesattel, was an American advertising artist -After studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati*, he worked as a graphic designer in Louisville, Kentucky, where he established a studio called Klee Ad Art. His chief source of notoriety occurred in 1913, when he was commissioned by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company to design the packaging for Camel cigarettes. It was Kleesattel who originated the Camel figure logo. It is claimed that he also contributed to the design of various labels for Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Heaven Hill Distilleries, and other corporate clients. While enlisted in the United States Army, he was a camouflage artist used to disguise buildings, vehicles, and other sensitive targets to resemble the surrounding animals and plants.
