This is a beautiful piece of early 20th Century artwork. There is an inscription on the back side of the frame from 1913 which reads, "Francis N. Haley, June 18, 1913. From Mother."
Based on the inscription, we know this frame and picture are at least 108 years old, but may be much older.
This picture and frame is believed to belong to Francis Haley, a French Canadian born in 1904, whose family immigrated to Boston in the early 1900s. This painting was clearly a gift from his mother.
The frame also features a beautiful 3-dimensional detail of a native American in a canoe. The native American portion has broken off, but the original canoe is still in-tact.
This is an incredible piece for any New England historian, Native American historian, American art aficionado, or simply for a unique decoration in a lake house.
Consistent with age and use.
