Raku is a process of rapidly cooling a glaze-fired pot. The glazed bisqueware is fired to 1800 degrees, then lifted out of the kiln with tongs and placed in covered containers filled with combustible straw and leaves. Flames from the ignited material create the flash effect and crackle patterns that make each piece unique.
