Item Description

This listing contains a 1968 poster print, made from the original artwork in the 1940's of Herbert Bayer - one of the renowned artists of the Bauhaus movement. This was used to promote the 1968 Bauhaus "Exhibition" ( Exhibition in German is Ausstellung). The Ausstellung was held from May til July, 1968 at the famous cultural event center called: Württembergischer Kunstverein, ( founded in 1827 and situated in the heart of Stuttgart at Schlossplatz). This venue is one of Germany’s largest art associations—boasting nearly 2,500 members, over 1,700 square meters of exhibition and event space, workshops, and a studio house. Bauhaus: 1919–1928, was an incomparably influential German school of art and design. A museum in Colorado is planning to open a research center dedicated to the work of Austrian designer, painter, photographer, typographer, and architect Herbert Bayer, an influential member of the Bauhaus movement. Bayer was an Austrian Impressionist & Modern artist who was born in 1900. His work was featured in numerous exhibitions at key galleries and museums, including the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution and the Tate Modern. Herbert Bayer's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $50 USD to $1,482,500 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. The artist died in 1985. Bauhaus Master marks the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus in Weimer, Germany, in 1919 and features rare works by the groundbreaking 20th-century graphic designer Herbert Bayer. Bayer was both a student and teacher at the Bauhaus, and enjoyed an illustrious career in the United States following his 1938 emigration. Born in Austria and active in Germany and the U.S. Bayer helped define a new language of graphic design suited to modern life. Charting his stylistic shifts and theoretical contributions, Herbert Bayer: Bauhaus Master highlights Bayer’s interest in typography and photography, design theory, information design, fashion and beauty, and poster design, as well as his corporate work.
Attached is a magazine article about Manhattan's Mark J. Weinbaum of Fine Posters and Prints, in years past, Weinbaum had this Herbert Bayer Poster selling for $3,000.00. A few weeks ago, one of these 1968 show posters used for the same exhibition, but in Paris, France sold for close to $400.00.
