Large Oval Handmade Nantucket Light Ship Sewing Basket

This oval Nantucket Lightship sewing basket is constructed using Oak for the base and handle.
The rim and staves are reed and the basket woven with rattan weavers.
The plug in the base is also Oak.
The handle is attached using Bone domes and washers and attached with brass rivets.
The shape of this handle is especially graceful.
Approximate dimensions are 14” x 13”
Lined with cotton, interior pockets.
Drawstring closure.
Nantucket Lightship baskets and purses are never stained; therefore new baskets and purses are light in color. However, they will darken over the years to provide the rich patina highly valued by Nantucket Lightship basket collectors.
