Item Description

Framed World War II First Day Of Issue 29 Cents Stamp Envelope "US Troops In Saipon" Jun 6, 1994. This was issued on board the USS Normandy near the site of the D-Day Invasion. Inside this special framed presentation is the envelope that also has the gold foil copy of the stamp surrounded by gold gilt lines and a US Eagle. There is also a full description of the first day of issue and the Saipon Mission.
A first day of issue cover is a postage stamp on a cover, a post card, or on an envelope franked on the first day of issue. They include a cancelled - timed and dated, hand done postmark- which shows they can't be re-used to send a letter. Circular Date Stamps are the "bread and butter" postmarks used on everyday mail by Post Office counter. All three of these U.S. Marines raising the U.S. Flag at "Iwo Jima" have the full postmark that includes "First Day of Issue".
DIMENSIONS: 10 3/4" wide x 13" tall x 3/4" thick. Comes with original hanging wire on the backside. The envelope is 7 1/2" wide X 4 1/4" tall.
CONDITION: Overall in good condition. No chips, cracks to the frame glass. The backside is papered with just a few small thumb-pressed breaks. Dusty from storage. PLEASE SEE MY PHOTOS FOR DETAILS OF THE GREAT CONDITION.
