Cram's Imperial World Globe by The George F. Cram Company, Indianapolis, IN on four legged wooden stand.
Measures 17" round x 18" H (with stand).
Following the American Civil War in which he marched with Sherman, George Franklin Cram (1842 - 1928) and his uncle, Rufus Blanchard, founded Blanchard & Cram in Evanston, Illinois. The company manufactured and sold maps and atlases. In 1869, Cram became sole owner, renaming the company the George F. Cram Company.
He sold a wide variety of maps and atlases. His most popular atlas was the Unrivaled Atlas of the World which was printed continuously from the 1880’s until 1952. In 1932, the company expanded into manufacturing world globes. The company remains one of the primary sources for educational globes in the market today.
In 1921, Cram sold the business to one of his largest customers E. A. Peterson of the National Map Company which is still producing quality maps and globes under the Cram banner. artpostgallery.com
