Item Description

One of nine Greek muses, Clio is the Greek Muse of History. This engraving is a print from a set of nine artistic drawings of The Greek Muses from the mid 1750's. The other eight Muses are Calliope, Euterpe, Thalmia, Melpomene, Tepsichore, Erato, Polyhymnia, Urania. In Greek mythology, Clio is the muse of history. Like all the muses, she is a daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne. The artist as noted on the left lower corner of the engraving is French Draughtsman Charles Bererdin. The engraver as noted on the right lower corner of the engraving, was the well known and highly regarded French born Florent Fidèle Constant Bourgeois 1767 - 1841. Originally done in black and white, this is a hand colored version of the beautiful engraving. Professionally framed and matted.
