This fine quality Aubusson flat weave needlepoint hand knotted rectangular wool rug features a floral bouquet and scroll design in tones of cream, maize, rose, and other muted pastel colors. This rug come with felt padding. There is an identical rug in this auction.

Aubusson carpet, floor covering, were originally handwoven at the villages of Aubusson and Felletin, in the département of Creuse in central France. Workshops were established in 1743 to manufacture pile carpets primarily for the nobility, to whom the Savonnerie court production was not available. Antique wool Aubusson rugs made in tapestry technique were among the most elegant and luxurious antique floor coverings.
