Item Description

Antique Remington Arms, Bridgeport, Conn Rifle Bayonet -circa 1915 Steel Star-shaped spike blade - 17 1/2" Blade - Dagger Plus 3" Socket. 7/8" Bore diameter and 1" Bridge exterior diameter. This Bayonet's blade has a blunted end tip.
After much research, the closest spike-shaped Bayonet I could find is this description: " Socket bayonet for use with the 7.62 mm. M1891 Mosin-Nagant rifle. This example was produced in the USA by the Remington Arms Co., in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for the Imperial Russian Government.
In 1915, Russia contracted with Remington and with the New England Westinghouse Co. to produce the 7.62 mm. M1891 Mosin-Nagant rifle and the accompanying bayonets. When the Communist Revolution of 1917 overthrew the government of Czar Nicholas II, the contract was cancelled, leaving Remington and N.E. Westinghouse holding a large quantity of M1891 rifles and bayonets; with factories tooled-up to produce Russian arms. The U.S. Government purchased all of the rifles and bayonets on hand, plus any more they could produce while their factories were converted to produce Browning machine guns. Some of the U.S.-purchased bayonets were marked with the Ordnance Dept. "Shell and Flame" device, however, many were not. The fit and finish of the Remington bayonet is better than on Russian-produced M1891 bayonets. "
Overall in Good Condition. It has a naturally formed antique patina. I don't see any locking ring on the socket. No chips, cracks, or signs of earlier repairs.

Condition

Consistent with age and use.
