Antique Comprehensive Bird's-eye View Of Manhattan Island 1868 Print "New York And Environs"

Rare print by by Joseph Shannon & WC Rogers, published 1869 in Valentines Manual. This original antique print depicts the entire island of Manhattan with Hoboken, Jersey City, and parts of Brooklyn and Queens. Commercial and residential buildings, railroads, churches, monuments, factories, warehouses, hospitals, parks, and other points of interest are depicted with considerable accuracy. New York harbor is filled with sailing ships, paddle wheel steamships, barges and smaller craft. The foreground shows the Palisades with mothers and their children, farmers, horses, and oxen drawn carts. Around the border are place names that correspond to their physical location in the bird's-eye view. Starting in the upper left corner to the upper right corner: Flushing, Astoria, and Maspeth in Queens. Bushwick Green Point, Williamsburg, Navy Yard, Marine Hospital, "City of Brooklyn", Coney Island, "Quarantine", Forts Hamilton and Richmond, Sandy Hook and Staten Island. Starting in the lower left corner to the lower right corner: West Hoboken, Hudson City, Union Hill, Philadelphia and Newark Rail Road, Harlem, Randall's and Ward Islands, Yorkville, the New York Arsenal, Blackwell's Island, City Hall, "Postoffice", Battery, Governor's Island, Road to Newark, Bergen Point, and Castle Garden.
