Believed to be a print of a colored engraving. Unsure of frame makeup.
Research shows that Angelika Kauffmann (1741-1807) was a Swiss Neoclassical painter who had a successful career in London and Rome. Remembered primarily as a history painter, Kauffmann was a skilled portraitist, landscape and decoration painter. The image shows the Judgement of Paris. Paris is awarding Venus the golden apple for being more beautiful than the goddesses Athena and Juno who stand beside her. This print is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Frame has a partial split - see photos 6. Purchased in an antique store in New Preston, CT approximately 20 years ago.
Notes: Frame has a partial split in one area. Good condition otherwise.
