Artist/Author Ian Falconer (best known for the children's series Olivia and his New Yorker cover illustrations) was also a collaborator and companion of David Hockney (and is featured in many of Hockney's photographs). The two met at art curator Henry Geldhzahler's apartment in New York in 1980, when Falconer was a nineteen-year-old art student. Two years later Falconer moved to Los Angeles to live with Hockeny. Their relationship was not an easy one and Falconer moved out in 1983. However the two remained on good terms, with Falconer designing costumes and assisting with the set designs for three of Hockney's opera productions.
This oversized acrylic on canvas painting is an insider's view and homage to Hockney's Living Room series.
