Robert Laessig 1913-2010
"Bob was one of the best wildflower artists in the United States," said Don Getz of Boston Township, who founded the Ohio Watercolor Society in 1978 with Laessig as a charter member. "The detail was unbelievable, and the method was so unusual."
Laessig painstakingly applied and ironed off layers of wax and thin acrylic paint to synthetic cloth to make impressionistic backgrounds. Then he painted foregrounds of flowers, bugs, spiders' webs, birds' nests and more. He worked at a flat desk and consulted a wealth of wildflowers and photos for images. He took some liberties with sizes and combinations, but depicted each object in accurate detail." from The Cleveland Plain Dealer 2010
