This style first appeared in Europe in the 17th century and then made its way to England, via the copying of French porcelains by the English porcelain makers in the 18th century. There was a dramatic Japanese surge after England and the United States opened trading with the Japanese and the fall of the Tokugawa Dynasty, establishing the Japanese monarchy, abolishing the Samurai warrior class and the feudal classes, modernizing Japan and its culture in lighting speed.
Company Name: Derby Porcelain Works; Derby Crown Porcelain Co., Ltd.; Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Co. Ltd.; Chelsea – Derby.
Location Derbyshire, UK
Periods of operation: 1750-1848 and 1878 to Present. The Chelsea – Derby refers to a short period when William Duesbury oversaw the company at the Chelsea factory in London and then in Derby during the period of his ownership (1769-1775). William Duesbury learned to be a ‘painter’ and purchased bisque white wares or under glazed blue wares and decorated them, refiring and selling them in London. He was an exceptionally well-known entrepreneur and collectively changed the porcelain manufacturing landscape in England.
There is quite a bit of information available on this firm, because of its fine quality porcelains and its long association with the Royal family over the years since George III.

Notes: Great condition. Everything pings with the fingernail light tap test, no cracks, hairlines. See description and images.
