An Italian Brutalist style hand-hammered copper bowl by Marcello Fantoni.
The bowl was used as an ash receiver, as evidenced by the cigarette holder to one side.
The bowl has an reticulated band, in an organic pattern and a hammered rim.
The bowl is marked to the bottom -Fantoni Firenze Italy-.
Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011) was a strong proponent of the brutalism style, his archaic stylizations inspired by Etruscan models.
He opened the Fantoni Ceramic Studio in 1936 and is considered one of the masters of mid century figurative design, and abstract ceramic and metal works.
The Brutalist style defines an aggressive 20th century design style characterized by rough textures and often unfinished materials.
