🌀 Antique Detective Story Book: The Leavenworth Case

Published in 1906. This was book 1 in the Mr. Gryce detective series; also Green's first book. Set in New York City, it concerns the murder of a retired merchant, Horatio Leavenworth, in his New York mansion. The book was influential in the development of the detective novel: Agatha Christie citing it as an influence on her own fiction. The novel was adapted (by Green) into a play first performed in 1891; and into films twice, in 1923 and 1936. Shows age; lots of ‘character’.
