Item Description

Listed is an interesting piece of Victoriana - a big silver plate ice water pitcher in the Arts & Crafts Movement style of the era. It was patented by J.A. Stimpson in 1854. In Victorian times ice water was considered a precious luxury so Simpson invented a pitcher with a triple wall of insulation as an effective way to preserve the cold water. It stands 13.5" high and features beautifully hand chased polar bears on ice floes on both sides as well as a satyr and maiden head on the handle. It has not been polished. In very good condition, including the interior, with a small dent on one side and wear consistent with age - see photos.
