Warren T. Halpin (American, 1908–1972): "Old M— (Studies of a Reclining Dog)," crayon/pastels on buff-gray wove paper, circa 1930s–1940s, inscribed at lower left and signed at lower right, sight size 9.25" x 12.25", matted and framed (without glass) to an overall size of 14.25" x 17.25" overall.

Halpin, who studied at the National Academy and the Grand Central Art School, was best known for his animal subjects, particularly horses. His work as an illustrator includes the 1938 equestrian-themed book Hoofbeats: Drawings and Comments.

Notes: Light wear to frame; light toning (mat line visible at extreme edges of sheet beneath mat; easily concealed by new mat); otherwise very good, clean, attractive condition overall
