Fine vintage carving of a robin by Curren Hawkins, Paradise, Michigan, 1950sā1960s, naturalistically carved and painted cedar with wire legs, mounted to a section of driftwood with hanging hole, the bird approx. 6-7/8" long, the wooden piece approx. 8" high, bearing a label reading "The Bird House, Curren & Josephine Hawkins, Paradise, Mich."
Hawkins (1887ā1973) took up wood carving in the 1950s, following his retirement, and gained wide renown for his bird figures.
Notes: Mild surface wear, otherwise in fine, untouched original condition, with no breaks or losses and pleasing patina. (Note that the bottom is cut/carved flat so that it can also sit upright on a table.)
