Scarce antique Bennington pottery humidor or covered jar, 19th century, the yellowware body of cylindrical form with molded base, two ear-shaped handles, and acanthus-molded rim, the sides molded with two different groups of cherubs, finished in characteristic Rockingham glaze in mottled tones of caramel brown, 8" tall by 7-5/8" diameter at the base.
One of the larger and more elusive Bennington forms, marked by a distinctively "classical" flavor, perfect for creative reuse as a planter or vase, wine cooler, serving piece, utensil holder, or catchall.
Notes: Lacking lid as shown; some light rubs to glaze; bottom with a few lines of crazing/firing cracks (all superficial, none penetrating to interior), otherwise fine, attractive condition overall, with crisp molding and no chips
