LARGE AND SCARCE ANTIQUE ALBUMEN PHOTO OF A BUSINESS BLOCK IN HARTFORD, CT, CIRCA 1880s

Large original albumen photo of the McGoodin Block Building, 916–920 Main Street, Hartford, Connecticut, 1880s, the image measuring 8-3/4" x 7" on the original mount with printed ruled border measuring 10-1/2" x 8-3/4" overall.

The image depicts a freestanding building, situated at a corner, with a large sign reading "Mc.Goodin Block"; at lower left is an awning with sign reading "C. S. Bunce, Groceries & Provisions, Meat, &c," with address number 920; the sign above the entrance at right reads "Flour, Grain & Hay." Several individuals stand out front, and products can be seen in the store windows. A horse hitched to a cart stands in the street in front; a church is visible on the side street at far left. (Though the site has obviously changed greatly over nearly a century and a half, the side street, according to a current map, may be Temple Street.)

Notes: A few small, trivial impressions to image (faint, minor crease to street at bottom edge); light soiling to mount with small edge teat at bottom (easily matted out if desired); otherwise clean, attractive, and near fine overall, with warm tone and very good clarity and contrast
