EXTRA LARGE VINTAGE PAINTED WOOD AND IRON "TARGET" FOUNDRY PATTERN/SAND MOLD, EARLY 20TH CENTURY

Fabulous extra-large vintage foundry pattern/sand mold, American, early 20th century, painted wood with heavy iron strapping, rectangular with large projecting, target-like circular form (evidently for a wheel or gear), painted in gray, yellow, and red, the overall dimensions approx. 39" x 36" x 10".

An exceptionally large, sculptural, eye-catching example with a modern sensibility evoking the target paintings of Jasper Johns. Despite its substantial size and weight, this hung on my wall for years (using special extra-heavy-duty hangers available at any hardware store; the back still retains the wire); used flat upon a base, it would also make a very striking coffee or end table. Originally found in northern Vermont.

Notes: Expected wear/oxidation from age and use; otherwise fine condition, with rich, pleasing, untouched patina
