Scarce antique souvenir paperweight, "Main Street, Hudson, Mass., July 5, 1894," depicting the aftermath of the devastating fire that destroyed the downtown area on July 4, made by the Samuel Ward Co., Boston, the fused milk glass bottom printed with a halftone photo of the ruins, 4" x 2=1/2" x 7/8".
Accidentally begun by some firecracker-wielding boys on the 1894 Independence Day and fueled by a box factory, the 1894 Hudson fire devastated the downtown district—forty buildings over a five-acre area—which had to be rebuilt almost in its entirety from the ground up.
Notes: A single insignificant flea bite to surface, otherwise very fine condition, with no cracks or chips
