23" Universal Statuary Mid Century Nude with Cat / Kitten Chalkware Statue. Signed # 851 Universal Statuary and dated 1963. Excellent condition; no chip, no cracks, no repairs. Size is 23" long; 9 1/2" high. Universal Statuary chalkware statues are highly collectible. The company was in Chicago; started in the 1930's by brothers, Jack and Leo Lucchesi. The company did contracted work for Sears, Wards, Marshall Field and other large department stores. Chalkware was used into the 1970's when other materials replaced it. The family sold the business in the early 1980's.
