Allan Holdsworth (born August 6, 1946; Bradford, West Yorkshire, England – died April 16, 2017; Vista, California, USA) was an English guitarist and composer best known for his work in jazz fusion.
After recording with a number of bands throughout the 1970's, his first solo album was released – against his will – as 1976's Velvet Darkness. I.O.U., the first solo album over which he had full artistic control, was released in 1982. He was inducted into Guitar Player Magazine's hall of fame and was a five-time winner of the magazine's readers' poll. He was also featured in Musician Magazine's 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
