Lot #15 of 108
Item Description

One of the most impressive Japanese netsuke we have ever offered for sale, masterfully carved and signed by known Meiji Period artist MINSEI. It dates to the last quarter of the 19th century, with a natural himotoshi [the crane's legs second as a tether for the cording]. The subject is outstanding- a seated karako is feeding an inquisitive crane from a vessel. In the crane's beak is a small fish. It is truly a work of art, from the crane's feathers to its' spindly legs, to the attire of the karako. Even the underside of the netsuke is finely carved, a show of utmost quality. Not a netsuke one sees often.
