“About the Artist”: DANIEL E. ROSNER

Dan Rosner was born In New York City and studied graphic arts/printmaking at the High School of Music & Art, where he designed/executed linoleum cuts for the school newspaper: “Overtone”, and graduated as St. Gaudens Medalist in 1951. While most of his subsequent art activities were postponed until phased-retirement from Yale University [where he is currently Research Professor/Sr. Research Scholar, and was Professor of Chemical Engineering from 1969 to 2014], in the late 1970s he resumed printmaking activities (etching, lithographs, wood- and lino-cuts, collagraphs) at New Haven’s Creative Arts Workshop(CAW). During this period his etching: “Stegosaurus” appeared on the cover of Science magazine (June 11,1976 and, subsequently, in both the New York Times and the (now reprinted by DOVER Publications) engineering heat transfer textbook by John H. Lienhard (Fig. 4.7, p125 (Prentice-Hall, 1981). Since 2012 Dan has initiated water-color painting at CAW, is a member of the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, the New Haven Paint & Clay Club (founded 1900), the Hamden Art League(HAL), and CAW -----participating in their respective annual exhibitions. He has also exhibited water-color paintings and prints at Yale University’s Morse College (October, 2014), Yale’s Koerner Center for Emeritus Faculty (May 2015, Spring 2020)), the New Haven Lawn Club (May 10-July 11, 2016) and the public libraries of Orange (February 2015), Hamden(March 2015) and Woodbridge (May 2014, June 2015, May 2018). His recent showings included the Bethany Public Library (October2018), NHP&CC/New Haven(Sept.2018,May 2019), Pomperaug Woods Center,Southbury(Sept.2018,2019),HAL(Dec. 2018, April 2019, Dec. 2019) and NHP&CC(Old Lyme CT,Sept. 2020).
