Lovely antique lap desk, Civil War era wooden lap desk box with sloped writing surface when the box is open to pen your love letters, interior slots with 2 original glass ink wells having screw on/off caps. The desk retains its original velvet like fabric interior, lock is in place (sorry no key), two lift up storage panels have clean interiors and original lining. The wood exterior has metal (brass?)shield design at the center of the lid for your monogram and inlay strips along the sides of the lid. Lid closes nicely, hinges work great, this is a beauty. Minor snaps on fabric interior, exterior finish has scratches needs wax or refinish to bring out the beauty of the wood, loss of 2 pieces of metal decorative banding on lid. Stately piece ready to use or display.
