Item Description

Handsome antique Native American flower basket, New England (possibly Wabanaki, Penobscot, or Passamaquoddy), early 20th century, ash splint with wrapped sweetgrass rim and bent wood handle, of graceful flaring form with twisted "porcupine" bands at foot and rim, the main body 5-1/2" tall, the overall height 11", the diameter at the rim 4-3/4" overall.

A pleasing early example in appealing combination of form and compact size.

CONDITION: Two adjacent curls at the top with breaks and losses (see photos; a few other with small, unobtrusive chips), otherwise very good, sturdy condition overall.
