Say goodbye to basic, bland millennial gray and hello to plenty of welcoming, bright colors! Recently, we’ve seen an influx of vibrant hues making their way into homes, and we’re absolutely all for it.
If you’re a bit hesitant to go bold, we’re sharing some easy, designer-approved ways to work color into your house one step at a time.
Even if you wish to keep your main furniture pieces neutral, you can still go all in with color when it comes to rugs and artwork, says Mary Clair Cumbaa, the founder of Cumbaa Design Co. Not sure which shades to pick? “When selecting the right hues, I recommend colors you gravitate towards and make you happy,” she says. “Everyone is drawn to different colors, so trust your gut and bring your interior to life through what you like."

Additionally, don’t forget about wallpaper! “Wallpaper is a fantastic option to introduce color to a room while adding pattern and dimensions without making too strong of a commitment,” says Barrie Spang, the founder of Sapphire Pear. “When you are ready to take a bolder leap, painting ceilings is my favorite way to add that extra pop!”

By no means do you have to take your living room from black and white to blue and green overnight. “If you are weary of straying from neutrals, start in small spaces such as powder rooms, offices, or mudrooms, and paint the space in a muted tone, slowly easing into more livable hues,” Sprang says.
Amanda Foster, who has a background in interior architecture and is now the founder of Foster Decor Consulting, is partial to incorporating plants in a room as a method of adding color. “You can’t go wrong with adding greenery to any space,” she says. “It can brighten a room while also playing to your existing neutrals. Adding greenery also comes with so many options whether you want a hanging plant, flowers, or even succulents.”

It’s possible that blah lampshade just isn’t cutting it anymore. “Another way to bring color into your home that most people might not think about is by lamps and lampshades,” Foster says. “Lampshades come in so many styles, colors and textures that you can really have some fun here while making a subtle impact to your space.”
