COLLECTION OF HAND-PAINTED PHOTOGRAPHS BY CHARLES H. SAWYER
In the 1890’s, Charles H. Sawyer, an associate of famed photographer, Wallace Nutting, perfected the techniques of hand-coloring black & white photos before commercial color film was available. A creative “Morphing” of familiar photo images, combined with the skilled hands of an artist, transformed the black and white images into works of art… “Reminiscent of the Hudson River School oil painters”. This extensive collection includes over 60 hand-colored Sawyer photos, and most are signed, and many have frames with original labels. The entire collection will be sold with no reserve having many familiar New Hampshire scenes - Old Man of the Mountain, Lake Sunapee, Mt. Chocorua... and many obscure, rarer images as well.
