In the general auction market, comparable works on paper by twentieth century artists of relatively similar origin and/or stature have sold for prices from approximately the hundreds to low thousands."*

The Irish American painter, educator, stained-glass artist and architect William T. L. Armstrong was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1881. He moved to the United States when he was five.
Armstrong was employed in the United States by the famed architectural firm of Carrere & Hastings. In 1912, with Peter De Gelleke, he started his own firm, De Gelleke and Armstrong, with an office in New York City.
In addition to his architectural work, he painted in watercolor and oil. He received awards from the American Watercolor Society, the Montclair Art Museum, the Plainfield Art Club and the Newark Art Club
He was a member of the New York Architectural League; Society of Beaux Arts Architects; American Watercolor Society (life); and New York Watercolor Club.
As an educator, he was on the faculty of the School of Architecture, Columbia University, and assistant professor of Architecture, New York University, and later on the faculty of the School of Fine Arts at NYU, where he was employed at the time of his death.
His work is in the Montclair Art Museum, the Milwaukee, WI General Hospital, the Nutley, NJ Public Library, Grace Episcopal Church, also in Nutley, and the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church.
His watercolors of churches were shown as illustrations in the publication Christian Herald. He was primarily a landscape painter.
Armstrong was married to the Estelle Ream Manon Armstrong, also a painter.
He died in Nutley, New Jersey in 1934. After his death, a memorial exhibition of his work was held at the Montclair Art Museum.
