Antique English Mahogany and Brass Campaign Desk/Portable Writing Desk (C. 1800-1815) on brass stand by J. Bramah of Picadilly, legendary locksmith, engineer and one of the most prolific inventors of the Industrial Revolution. (J. Bramah also invented the hydraulic press, the first flushable toilet, a beer engine and a quill sharpener!) This unique campaign desk features multi-level compartments for writing, storage, pens, inkwells and accoutrements. Intricately complicated locking hardware and hidden compartments are accessed by combination rod (included) and key (missing). Solid brass stand not original. Recessed handles, brass inlays and rare coromandel veneer contribute to the appearance. Own this extremely well-made example of ingenuity and craftsmanship--It will surely be a conversation piece for your home or office!
Notes: Very good, some light scratches that could be polished.
