World War II U.S. Navy Photo: Navy Ordinance Expert Displays Enemy Mortar Shells & Bombs.
A dismantled souvenir "Booby Trap" is displayed here by a Navy Ordinance expert. This item - a Japanese g1 Mortar Shell, came into this country as a "harmless souvenir". Navy specialists fortunately were called in to double-check on the shell and tests showed a hidden "Booby-trap" calculated to maim an unwary examiner. World War II Official U.S. Navy photo picked up for printing in newspapers. The machine typed photo description from the newspaper staff is still readable on the backside of the photograph 76 years after it ran in the papers on 12/20/1944.
