About the artist:
Otto Botto was a native of Ragaz, Switzerland who came to the U.S. in 1922. He flourished in New York mid-century. Those were very difficult times for many artists. The "Artist's Showroom" on East 33rd Street in New York City purchased many of his works so he could continue buying art supplies and had money for food (AskArt). In the 1950's and 1960's, as a Swiss-American, Botto painted on many subjects to appeal to the commercial market and support himself. He signed these "Loret". This is a beautiful example of those pieces.
Otto has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Carnegie Institute.
