Vintage & Large Sterling Silver Water Pitcher Chantilly- Grand (Sterling Hollowware) By GORHAM SILVER of Providence, Rhode Island - Model # A580. This Gorham Chantilly- Grand Pitcher weighs 1,216 grams / or 39.1 ozt.
The Gorham Silversmith's Silver's Hallmarks are in the Base.
Most silver holloware items are made of 925 sterling silver. This type of silver is the most common for American pieces because it's durable and yet it still has a high purity. Sterling silver items will usually have markings that indicate that they are sterling silver. The markings will appear as "925", "sterling", "ster", or some variation. This Gorham Pitcher is marked "STERLING". **Photo #3 is another identical Gorham A580 that is polished - this was to show you how beautiful it can become when the tarnish is polished away. We believe one side of our A580 has a monogram and the other is blank. Not sure about the monogram as we see flowers as well as what could be very fancy script initials.
We have purposely not polished the silver tarnish as we know new Owner's like to treat their precious fine silver items how they like to. So we are including a partially used container of Wright's Silver Cream Polish ( container of polish is approx half full ).
At the tallest part of the pouring spout this Gorham Sterling Silver pitcher is 10 1/4" tall.
At its widest point (includes the handle) this pitcher is 9 1/4" wide and it is 5 1/2" wide.
The Base is 5 3/8" x 4 1/2".
Notes: Needs a silver polishing if you so desire- it has age appropriate tarnish.
