Vintage yueqin rare wooden moon guitar, a commonly used instrument in the Beijing opera orchestra. "Yue" stands for "the moon" in Chinese. Guitar has four strings and four carved wooden pegs. The original carved jade medallion adorning the neck was stolen. A replacement jade medallion is provided, not affixed to the yueqin.
The yueqin was invented, according to tradition, during the Jin dynasty, between about AD 265 and 420. The instrument is often included in jingxi (folk opera) orchestras. It is also used as a solo instrument (from the encyclopedia).
