Rebel Without a Cause (James Dean) is from Warhol’s 1985 Ads portfolio of ten widely recognized logos in American consumer culture, which includes trademarks of Mobil Gas, Paramount Pictures, and Lifesavers. The series transformed and glamorized corporate advertisements of the 1950s and 1960s into chic Pop art.

The Rebel Without A Cause image featuring James Dean was taken directly from the poster of James Dean’s best-known film, Rebel Without a Cause, touching on Warhol’s obsession with Hollywood stardom, celebrity and death. James Dean stylized figure is screened twice, immortalizing the actor before his untimely death in 1955. Dean’s figure is set against a vibrant red background and bright blue billboard-style Japanese characters.
