Purchased in 2006 for $9,800 from a private English collection via Paul Vandekar.
"In the 19th Century, there were various types of woolworks: those made for private use, those made for public sale, and in Britain and American, those done by the sailors. A variation of this last type was a telescopic view of a ship, surrounded by flags. This particular example is a variation on the telescopic view.
This piece is quite rare in that it features exclusively American flags and the American Eagle. Usually, flags of allies are incorporated into the design, and to see one that is so completely American is very, very rare.
32 stars - July 4, 1858 to July 3, 1959."
