Q&A With Christie

AN: What one or two items do you have a hard time NOT bidding on?

CM: Lamps! Warm light makes a space, in my opinion, so I’m always on the hunt for unique vintage lamps. My favorites are alabaster, ginger jar, or globe styles. To give them a modern look, I like to switch out the shades so they have a nice juxtaposition. I talk about this and styling recommendations for lamps quite often on my Instagram.

AN: What's your favorite AuctionNinja purchase?

CM: My favorite AN purchase is a 48 piece Waterford crystal Lismore stemware collection. My husband and I bought this when we were engaged instead of registering for crystal so we could use one cash gift for the collection instead of many guests buying new one-off pieces. We saved so much money and love the unique coupes… they’re stunning!

AN: What's your absolute favorite item ever purchased through an estate sale or online auction?

CM: My $20 alabaster lamp! I found it tucked away at a flea market in Connecticut and I fell in love instantly. I had been looking for months, but most were either too expensive or the wrong shape/ color. This one is perfect and well worth the wait. With antiquing, patience is the most important secret. There’s a really good one on AN this week if interested… happy bidding!

AN: Any tips or advice for AuctionNinja newbies?

CM: When you find something you love, take measurements to see if it will work in your space since - like with many vintage auctions - there aren’t return options. If it works for your space, set an alarm before the auction closes and put your best bid in! See more of my AN bidding tips in my new IGTV to get the full list…. good luck!
