St. Baldrick\'s and AuctionNinja\'s childhood cancer fundraiser.

Snip. Buzz. Whir.  The clean clipping of sharp scissors and the hum of the electric razor will surround the head of fifth grader, Gemma, (daughter of AuctionNinja's founders, Grant and Christie) on March 15, when she bravely bares her beautiful bald head for Osborn Hill Elementary School's Team Teddy for their St. Baldrick's Day. This was no easy decision for Gemma, whose long chocolate brown hair is an important part of her identity. Gemma astutely noticed that there seems to be far fewer girls than boys who participate in the annual fundraising event to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation whose purpose is to help fight childhood cancers, but that isn't waylaying her desire to help.

"I know one girl who shaved her head last year -- she's the only one that did. All the rest were boys," notes Gemma. "I want to support the people that have cancer, especially the girls, to let them know it's not so bad not having hair."

Gemma is a member of "Team Teddy" which was founded for a Fairfield student, Teddy Gerber, who was diagnosed with cancer at the age of eight and passed away shortly thereafter. Team Teddy raises money to work for finding a cure for pediatric cancer through the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

In addition to shaving her head to raise funds for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, Gemma will donate her long, flowy locks to Locks of Love, an organization that uses human hair donations to make quality children's wigs for those whose medical conditions has caused them to lose their hair permanently.
