Michelle Lanzilatti is a stay-at-home mom who lives in Atlanta. Her love for interior design started when she began to fix up and decorate her current home. She had no idea she had a knack for it, until then!
“I have always felt as if I was an old soul and “born in the wrong time period.’’” Michelle told us. “I think this is why I love secondhand, used, and vintage everything! I like to think I used to be a Parisian princess in a past life, which is why I am so drawn to everything French. There is something amazing about the story behind the pieces I collect within my home. They have meaning.”
What got you interested in secondhand, vintage, and antique items?
My love of “old” things also comes from my grandmother. She still has skeleton keys to open and close all the doors in her home. Need I say more? Her home is filled with pieces from years ago, and I have always appreciated their uniqueness and beauty ever since I was a little girl.”
What are one or two things that you always find yourself bidding on/looking for when shopping secondhand?
I constantly find myself searching for gold antique mirrors, antique chairs, and French and Gustavian furniture. Gustavian furniture is similar to French, but much less frill. I am obsessed! That’s why when invited to join AuctionNina’s Collected Perspectives guest curation series, I can’t wait to choose some of the items from their marketplace that I’ll definitely be bidding on.
What’s your absolute favorite item ever purchased at an estate sale or online auction?
My most favorite secondhand piece I have ever purchased would have to be my daughter’s bedroom set. The previous owners stated that it had been in their family for generations and it is well over 100 years old! See? Isn’t that so cool? It has history, and has stood the test of time.

Furniture refinishing is the happiest accident that Anastasia Graziose, our guest curator this week, stumbled upon. by Emily Kontos My love of vintage was handed down to me as most good things are. Between antiquing with my mother and learning everything there is to know about vintage toy trains and classic cars from my father, my own collections have grown over the years. In 2019, I began sharing my ...
