Q&A with Joy

What got you interested in secondhand, vintage, and antique items?

I’ve always loved family history, even as a child. Antiques and vintage items carry a wealth of stories that I find so intriguing. Not to mention their character and uniqueness!

I’m definitely a very sentimental person, and I think that goes hand in hand with my love for antiques and vintage finds. My home is filled with furniture, handmade quilts, and other heirlooms that have been passed down through my family. It’s a window into the past and a beautiful way to honor those who came before us.

What are the one or two things that you always find yourself bidding on or looking for when shopping secondhand?

I love finding a great set of drapes! But mostly, I’m always on the lookout for a beautiful, unique item that I just can’t live without. I like to build character and layers in my home—not necessarily clutter. Lamps, interesting books, brass, and copper are always high on my list.

What’s your absolute favorite secondhand item ever purchased?

That’s a tough one, but I think it’s my collection of antique and vintage brown transferware platters. My husband recently built a plate rack for them so I can finally display them properly. It’s such a simple yet meaningful way to showcase a collection I truly love.
